Kate Saumweber Hogan is a certified professional midwife, licensed in Minnesota (LM# 1025) and Wisconsin (License #113-49).

Kate Saumweber Hogan is a certified professional midwife, licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She is a 2010 graduate of Bastyr University’s Department of Midwifery, formerly Seattle Midwifery School.

Kate believes in the natural process of pregnancy and birth, the intuitive wisdom in each person’s body, and that every growing family deserves the support of midwifery care.  She believes parents are the best decision-makers for their families and that pregnant people should know about their options for care and be aware of their choices. Kate loves witnessing couples become families and children become siblings, and is committed to protecting the first moments when parents meet their baby, keeping the birth space calm and family-focused. Spending time with families during the childbearing year is a passion of Kate’s. Her wish is that every childbearing person could know the power and wisdom of their body and to know their true options in birth and the times surrounding it.

During her midwifery training, Kate worked with three midwifery practices in the Twin Cities as an apprentice and completed a six-week clinical rotation at a birth site in Genova, Italy. She has been an active member of the Minnesota Council of Certified Professional Midwives since 2006, serving as a board member for several years. She is also one of three midwives on the Midwifery Advisory Council to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, serving in this position since 2012. From 2016-2018, Kate served as the president of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwifery, continuing after her term as an active member. Kate has been an active member of the Childbirth Collective since 2006. She has served as a preceptor for many midwifery students. Throughout her career, Kate has also worked to improve transfer relationships between out-of-hospital midwives, hospital based providers, and EMS teams. As a doula, student and homebirth midwife, she has been supporting families at births since 2004.

Kate graduated magna cum laude from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music and minors in women's studies and integrative health studies.

She lives in South Minneapolis with her family. In her time off she loves being in nature, paddle boarding, skate skiing, running, sailing, ice skating, lounging at the beach, bike rides, picnics, steam rooms and saunas. All of those activities are even better when one or more of her three kids can join in the fun!
